In response to Laura Perrins: Could Corbyn have been this bad?

Is there a single intelligent adult in our political/media class who has actually thought this through?
Timely and honest article; many thanks Laura.
I always felt that this was a Blairite government which was conservative in name only. I won’t claim to have foreseen this disaster, but it doesn’t surprise me that this government should have adopted a heavy-handed and massively authoritarian approach based on dubious data.
That is all part of the Blairite playbook and reminds me very much of the badly mishandled foot and mouth episode from 2001, which was also driven by useless predictions from Imperial College. I thought this was pretty much as bad as things could get at the time, but clearly Johnson has now surpassed even that debacle by orders of magnitude.
Whatever the dangers of the virus itself are – and these seem to have been massively exaggerated – it is quite obvious that the UK now faces an entirely unnecessary economic disaster and a massive assault on individual freedom, which will probably never be fully rolled back.
Altogether very worrying.
